they have two cars, the kids start to drive, then they're gone;
he starts to drink again, but not too much, not at first;
they still have fun, perhaps more now than ever;
the store he owns is failing, he struggles, moves it, then lets it fail;
they sail out into the short swift years of retirement,
they take trips, they play games, they spend their time together;
he drinks because he drinks now, but never before
five,
all day he's hers, does what she wants, does what he does,
when the sun goes down he too goes down,
and down,
until he cannot hear her calling him to bed,
cannot hear a voice at all.
