The left half of the face is him all right, but the right eye seems too big or it's open too wide whatever that ice-blue eye's looking at has it frozen, perhaps with fright. Or, from another angle, that of time (time to come, for the man sitting for this portrait), that eye is what it will become -- a mere window, perfectly clear, itself seeing nothing.
