Mom remembers that Dad was at Fort Knox, (recalled for Korea) trying and trying to call in, but the party line was always tied up. Til recalls that another neighbor (Fred Lieb) worked at the A&P in Burgettstown, twenty miles away; he was stuck there for two days, but when he did make it back he had lots of food. Then they all groan about the Scharnbergs: all they did was wade from house to house, mooching cigarettes and beer....
